The names of things have great significance.  When my parents bestowed upon me a name with the meaning of "humble watchman,"  I have little doubt that they had great hopes for their son to one day mature into a living expression of that concept.  But what exactly is a watchman?

Isaiah 21:6, “For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go , set a watchman , let him declare what he seeth.”

A watchman's job is very simple: to watch.  To watch something is to observe attentively, typically over a period of time.  In days gone by, watchmen would stand in towers or on city walls and observe traffic coming and out of the city.  They would take note of anything unusual or sound an alarm if there was an impending attack. Other actions would be to announce persons of importance or notable events occurring outside the gates.  I view that as my role in society, first as a Christian and secondly as a creative professional.  As I observe the people and events in our culture, I will always filter these things through a Biblical grid to understand them aright and know how to respond appropriately.

Film is a powerful medium because it tells stories, and people spend countless hours watching these stories because story is metaphor for life.  Powerful ideas are wrapped inside emotional experiences.  So as a Christian making films, it is my express desire to be first and foremost pleasing to God in both what I watch, and what I creatively produce for others to watch.  The mission of Watchman Pictures, then, is very simple, good stories well told, that communicate powerful ideas based on Truth, that entertains and edifies the viewer.  All of this I will do in full dependence upon the Lord's providence and gracious empowering, for without Him I can do nothing.

Psalm 127:1, “Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”
